You might need a refresher as well as a guidebook on where they’re even an option and if you should start thinking about these elusive on-campus interviews. Here we go:The short, TLDR version:If you’re reading this and you’re a rising senior, YES, you should schedule these interviews and visits, but do it soon before fall hits.If you’re reading this and you’re a rising junior, YES, and plan ahead!The long version (we like you):On-campus interviews are essentially a bonus that some schools offer to students who visit campus. It’s a great option for students who are planning to visit a school and who want to get an interview out of the way. It’s also a phenomenal way to bolster your “demonstrated interest” at that particular school. But, they’re only offered at some schools.We get a lot of students and parents askin g us if they should schedule an on-campus interview for a school they are just visiting for the first time and are not sure if they will love it. Our answer is pretty much always YES. Here’s why:You have nothing to lose. Worst case: you interview and demonstrate interest at a school that you don’t end up applying to or loving. So what? In the case that you do apply, even if it’s not a top choice, you’ve already gotten yourself way ahead in terms of demonstrated interest.It can be more meaningful than an alumni interview. We don’t mean that you shouldn’t prepare for alumni interviews, but because you’re on campus already, admissions officers who are conducting these interviews have more direct access to the admissions officeâ€"namely, they work there. They aren’t alumni of the college necessarily, and your report goes straight into your potential application folder. It’s clean. We like clean.Same rules as alumni interviews. This means prepare, have questions ready, and get your interviewer’s contact information so that you can write them a thank you note.Sometimes they have different names, but those are to distract the unmotivated. Romeo and Juliet: Theme of Love - Written Rationale For Petcha Kutcha To begin, a blooming flower marks more than just the commencement of spring. I decided to visually perceive a blooming flower within my slides as it portrays the importance of Romeo and Juliet s love. Juliet verbalizes to Romeo that, â€Å"this bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath/ May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.† (2.3.121-122) The flower bud describes the beginning of their love while the blooming flower represents their growing love. In Act 2, the blooming flower utilises the commitment that Juliet wants from Romeo. Within the play, Shakespeare captures bullying with the use of physical violence. Towards the middle of the play, Tybalt bullies Romeo and Mercutio stands up to him but he gets killed. Bullying is displayed as something that is much more brutal than we optically discern it to be. Further, Shakespeare is capable of connecting with his audience. I put the picture of the family feud in because it’s something that it relatable even in this generation moreover, than the theme of love. Justin Comfort College Prep 12/14/15 Wit, Hardship, and Wisdom America was founded on the firm belief that all men are created equal; from birth no one man is better than another. Slavery existed, however, and despite this idea of universal equality, the first African-Americans were treated as unequal to their white masters. The only way the slave drivers could justify their backwards mindset was to declare that the slaves were helpless on their own, and that slavery was a righteous institution that kept the slaves clothed, fed, and sheltered. Though it took years, people began to see the wrong in slavery, and some spoke out. The North had stopped using slaves after the Revolutionary War and thereafter had more sympathy with slaves. Consider how these ideas are presented in different interpretations of the scene Essay Shakespeare displays his ideas of love at first sight and young love in Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare lived in the Elizabethan era where love was mostly influenced by the Courtly Love tradition. Courtly love is from the Middle ages and is much different to now. In Courtly love is where a man is supposed to fall in love with a woman who is or acts unavailable. The woman is supposed to refuse the mans offers and total ignore him and play hard to get. The man goes in to depression and he starts to do things to gain his fair ladys attention. She still turns him down and he starts to get jealous of her and anyone she is seen with. The woman is normally of a higher status, married or from the wrong family. Shakespeare uses the ideas of courtly love and goes against the rules. In the play Juliet returns Romeos love when they meet at the Capulets ball. She doesnt brush him aside and shows her love. The Elizabethans also believed strongly in the laws of marriage. A woman is only owned by first her father then her husband so she was not able to make her own decisions about her life. Her parents would have chosen her husband. In the play Paris was chosen to wed Juliet by her parents. But by this time Juliet had fallen in love with Romeo and did not want marry Paris. In Act 1 scene 1 Romeo is not in love with Juliet to start the play. Romeo is or thinks he is in love with Rosaline. Romeos love is more to do with Courtly love even though he seems to be infatuated instead of real love. He is the typical lonely depressed person that courtly love rules say. We know this because Benvoilo and Romeos brother tells Lady Montague that he shuts himself up in his room and is dissolved in great thought, mainly about Rosaline. Shakespeare begins in this way to show how a typical person should act in the rules of Courtly love. This helps the story line when Romeo and Juliet meet. In Act 1 scene 5 Shakespeare begins the scene where by the servants and hurrying around to get the last bits of the party sorted out, and because they are rushing they this builds up the tension in the atmosphere. It is the scene when Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time and there is love at first sight. From the moment they saw each other they fell in love. Love like this cant be helped even though tried. This scene is set at the Capulets ball and Romeo who is a Montague has crept in to the Capulets ball. Juliets cousin Tybalt notices him however. He goes and tells Capulet but he only tells Tybalt to keep his mouth shut as they have guests. This adds the sense of danger to the scene, incase Romeo and Juliet are caught together. The other most important feeling in the scene is love and love at first sight. Here is where Romeo loses his feelings for Rosaline and falls deeply in love with Juliet. Juliet goes against the rules of Courtly love and returns his love and this is a good example of love at first sight. Romeo describes what he sees and is describing the way Juliet looks but not in the same way as he described Rosaline. People describe their lovers eyes as stars in the evening sky but Romeo says O she doth teach the touches to burn bright. He seems to describe not just on her looks but on how superior and higher status she is compared to him. In this part of the play Shakespeare uses imagery to describe how Juliet looks and what her movements are like. Romeo describes Juliet as a snowy dove trooping with crows to show that she shines out from everyone around her. Shakespeare uses a range of techniques to describe how Romeo is feeling about Juliet and how he has to see more of her. He uses techniques such as Juxtaposition of love and hate to show how tense the scene is and that feelings are running high. This also is the excitement and danger. The young lovers have the excitement of love at first sight but have the danger of being caught together. When Romeo reveals himself he starts to become less rational about his relationship with Juliet when she is thinking about long term and about the consequences of their actions even though they are in love. Juliet acts more responsible. Romeo starts saying things that are surreal like there lies more peril in thine eye than twenty of their sword. This shows he is so madly in love with J uliet that he would risk death then never to look in Juliets eyes. He seems to not have thought through what he is saying and is acting on the spare of the moment. Juliet is trying to get him to act rationally. When she asks him to say how much he loves her Rome says by yonder blessed moon. Juliet then asks for Romeo to swear by something more real and valuable then the moon showing she wants Romeo to take their love seriously. This is what young love is seen to be. In the films produced by Baz Luhrmanm (1997) and Zeffrelli (1970) the scene is acted in slightly different ways. Baz Luhrmanm is known for his wacky interpretation of films. In Romeo and Juliet it is no different as he sets the story in a modern setting but still uses Shakespeares original language. In the Capulets ball it is a fancy dress party and he puts Juliet in an angels costume. This was a clever way to show how immortal she seems to Romeo and how she above everyone. Then when Romeo and Juliet have done their speech about each other and they go to kiss they go in to a lift. This shows how their relationship will take them to new levels of love and take them away from the wars of the surroundings. In films different camera shots can be used and lighting can be used differently but one thing that is the same in plays and films is the music. In BL film the music is playing softly in the background until the first kiss scene where it crescendos to show a dramatic part in the film. The Zeffrelli is older then the Baz Luhrmanm but just as good for the understanding of the play. Zeffrelli stays more to true to Shakespeares script and in ties with the Elizabethan era as the dances and the costumes and the manners are the same as in the Elizabethan era. In the film Capulet is angrier with Tybalt for disturbing the peace at their ball. Capulet has his speech cut short and Lady Capulet finishes his speech off to add a bit more tension to the scolding. The nurse is involved in this in both films as she is the one who reveals that Romeo is a Montague but is played in 2 different moods. In the BL film after she tells Juliet who Romeo is, she tries to drag Juliet away from Romeo and get her to her mother where she couldnt see Romeo. A hero is defined as a man who is of distinguished courage or admired for his ability and brave deeds. The Old Man mirrors Hemingway’s ideal man, who is coming into his old age. Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21st 1899 and was an American author and journalist. His writing style was severely under rated. His adventurous life greatly influenced later generations. Hemingway produced most of his works during the 1920s and 50s. He wrote seven novels, six short stories, and two non-fiction works. Several books of his were published after death. Many of his works are considered American Classics in literature. The Old Man is a kind, confident and determined man. Although Santiago is old, he asserts himself through fishing by imbuing his acts with a brotherly love and a desire to remain stoic no matter his hard ships. While the Old Man lives in relative seclusion, he gives his life meaning through fishing. He creates this meaning by imbuing his work with a brutally intense focus. Santiago’s determination and perseverance that he infuses within the various tasks that he has before him helps Santiago accomplish his goals. Without his focus he would never have prevailed against the mako and shovel nosed sharks. This is apparent when during the night, Santiago awaits the next wave of sharks and begins to wonder, â€Å"what can I think of now? Nothing. I must think of nothing and wait for the next ones†[111]. Santiago’s focus facilitates the progress of his accomplishments; but also defines himself as a character and a code hero. Santiago is an accomplished fisherman with a great capacity for determination and passionate focus, which affirms his beliefs and breaths meaning into the chaotic world that he has been thrown into. The Old man has no next of kin and his only true friend is the boy, Manolin. This lack of outside relationships allows for Santiago to become more focused and determined. Which is the definitive aspect of Santiago as a human being and as a fisherman. This is most apparent when The Old Man states, â€Å"You were born to be a fisherman as the fish were born to be fish†[105]. While the old man is a focused and determined person he finds the balance between life and death in all of nature. He respects nature and treats every aspect of it with a brotherly compassion. Santiago respects the struggles of others, especially the struggle between man and beast. The respect that Santiago gives others is also filled with a burning compassion. While battling the marlin, The Old Man regularly refers to the fish as â€Å"brother† this shows a true sense of empathy towards his brother, the marlin. An Important factor in Santiago’s struggle is that he does not treat the marlin as a foe but as a comrade whom he must battle in order to survive. Although Santiago regrets that he must kill the noble marlin in order to survive. Battling the marlin brings Santiago great joy but he respects the fish’s desire to survive: â€Å"You are killing me, fish, the old man thought. But you have a right to. Never have I seen a greater, or more beautiful, or a calmer or more noble thing than you, brother. Come on and kill me. I do not care who kills who† [92]. The marlin is a noble and powerful fish but Santiago finds beauty and grace in even those who seek to prey upon him. Although the shark preys upon Santiago, he still respects the shark’s powerful nature and speed. Santiago comments on his beauty and features similar to the marlin. Which is in stark contrast to the marlin. Respecting the balance between life and death is an important quality of Santiago’s as well as a code hero. The Old Man respects nature but also fills the world around him with his ideals and beliefs. Santiago remains stoic during tumultuous times. He finds himself remaining calm and treating his body as a tool rather a part of his self. While battling the marlin, The Old Man’s hand begins to cramp. He quickly reprimands his hand for failing him at such a pivotal point in his battle. Remaining detached is an important quality of Santiago’s as well as an important quality in Stoicism. Stoicism is a school of thought, which held the principles of logical thought, and allowed for destructive emotions and painful or primal feelings to be filtered out. Along with filtering out primal emotions stoicism requires intense focus and physical determination. After Santiago’s rest during the night, he pulls his hand from the sea to see if it had healed and he feels a searing pain in his hand and then tells himself that, â€Å"pain does not matter to a man†[84]. This defines the Old man’s entire struggle, the elimination of pain in the face of insurmountable odds. Many Hemingway heroes display stoic qualities such as Robert Jordan in Whom The Bell Tolls who fought in The Spanish Civil War on the republican side. The qualities of Santiago mirror that of many Hemingway heroes who represent Stoicism, Determination, and the respect of nature. Santiago is old and alone but he gives his life meaning through fishing and respecting nature, while remaining a stoic individual. The Old man affirms his beliefs and who he is as a person by focusing on fishing. He respects the natural world and equates nature to other human beings. Stoicism is an important quality of Santiago’s and helps him in his goals as a fisherman. Santiago is an important Hemingway hero and clearly represents all the aspirations and ideals of Ernest Hemingway.

Where formalization is low, employees have a great deal of freedom in deciding how to conduct their work†. Authority is related to power in that it legitimizes supervisors to be able to direct and control subordinates to the intended course of action. Authority helps the supervisor to make decision geared towards organizational objective. Organization has three form of authority namely line authority, staff authority as well as team authority all distributed in the organizational structure. Line authority refers to straight supervisory form superior to subordinate organized such that it flows from top to the bottom of organization structure. Organization structure gives the chain of command which is unbroken line of command defining the decision, making process within an organization. Chain of command defining the authority of different personality in an organization helps employees to know who they are answerable to. This helps to avoid problem of duplication organization activities which comes due to more than one person assigning duties. Line of authority which is the basis of chain of command is linked to line department which are directly connected to production and sales of the organizational products. Examples of line department are marketing and production responsible for performance of the employees and reward. Staff authority as compared to line authority is more pegged to authority to advice base on the expertise and involves advising line managers. Employees help the line departments in coming up with the advices to be used for decision making but they lack authority to make the last decision. Staff supervision through suggestions made by line department decides on what is to be carried in the line department, coordinate as well as provide technical assistance. Team authority is executed by work teams responsible for daily operations in an organization. It comprises of groups of operating employees responsible for coordination of the organization operations. Team based structure as define under team authority in an organization organizes separate functions based on the overall organizational objectives. Macbeth Is A Butcher And Lady Macbeth Is A Fiend-like Queen Essay

In Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth, the following statement can be applied, â€Å"Macbeth is a butcher and Lady Macbeth is a fiend-like queen.† This is a true statement as many occurrences involving Macbeth and Lady Macbeth portray them in this way. A butcher can be defined as someone who kills or has people killed needlessly or brutally. The term butcher used in this way describes Macbeth to some extent. During the play, Macbeth is involved in the murder of many people, including King Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s wife and children. A fiend can be described as a very wicked or cruel person, or one who causes mischief and annoyance. This can be applied to Lady Macbeth, who had only her own intentions at heart. On many occasions Lady Macbeth shows fiend-like traits, especially when plotting to kill Duncan, framing the servants after he has been killed, and also when she fails to stop Macbeth from killing Banquo. These events are examples of when the two characters show these traits. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth can be described as being loyal, courageous and noble. He is liked, trusted and respected by everyone around him. However this soon changes after his first encounter with the three witches. This is because the witches inform Macbeth that his life could be far different, therefore changing Macbeth’s perception of his life. In doing this, they do not actually use true powers, they use the power of suggestion. This is where we begin to see a change in Macbeth’s outlook on life and his behaviour. Being the ambitious man that he is, Macbeth’s thoughts become dark, and he secretly thinks about what should be done about King Duncan to increase his own power. In spite of this fact, the play is equivocal as to whether or not Macbeth intended on killing Duncan before he met with the witches. In Act One, Scene three, Macbeth says: This supernatural soliciting Cannot be ill, cannot be good. If ill, Why hath it given me earnest of success, Commencing in truth? I am Thane of Cawdor: In this passage Macbeth seems to be questioning himself as to what he should do next. The first prediction that the witches made has come true, and he is now considering whether or not there will be any truth in the prediction about him becoming king. He seems unsure if he should act upon their predictions or not. Macbeth is eventually persuaded to murder Duncan by his wife. Dunca... ... Macbeth continues this pattern when she fails to stop Macbeth from killing Banquo. She suspects that Macbeth will kill him, but does not convince him otherwise. When Macbeth suggests that he is going to do something about Banquo, she makes no effort to dissuade him. She seems quite pleased that Macbeth is going to do something about Banquo, as it will help her retain her position as Queen. She does not yet feel any remorse for anything that they have done, and seems to think that it is great that Macbeth is finally taking charge of his own treacherous deeds. Throughout the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Macbeth can be described as a Butcher, and Lady Macbeth can be described as a fiend-like queen. Many examples supporting this can be found throughout the play. Macbeth can be described as a butcher when he is involved in the murders of King Duncan, Banquo and Macduff’s family. Adrienne Nicole Strunk Writing 115 Chris Risley Summary-Response In Praise of the F Word In her essay â€Å"In Praise of the F word† by Mary Sherry, she talks about how she teaches high school graduates that have been â€Å"cheated† by the education system; that they are â€Å"handed meaningless diplomas. † 2. ) Students were just passed along to the next grade whether they understood the material or not. 3. ) And the students soon discover that themselves later on. 4. ) Sherry describes how her attention-getter to her students was the mention of failure. . ) She recalls a time when her â€Å"world-class c youngest son,† was talking a lot in class and had to have a meeting with his teacher Mrs. Sifter about the situation. 6. ) Sherry simply asked Mrs. Sifter to move her son to a different area so he would focus more. 7. ) Mrs. Sifter’s response was simply â€Å"I don’t move seniors, I flunk them. † 8. ) That’s when she realized her son had completed the rest of Mrs. Sifter’s course without talking but finished out the term with an A. 9. ) The answer is simple, the idea of failure, â€Å"a healthy fear. 10. ) Later on in her essay she explains how people can overcome their problems but they need a reason too. 11. ) Sherry reminds us all that mentioning the idea of flunking can be a â€Å"positive teaching tool,† and she wants to return the choice to give students the opportunity to succeed or fail.
